CEN Workshop on Multilingual eClassification in eBusiness (eCAT) - Cologne
25. January 2010
ePPS seminar - Classification systems for public and private eProcurement
Backroung CEN Workshop eCAT
Launched in 2002 to address issues related to the use of electronic catalogues used for
eBusiness in a multilingual environment, the scope
of the Workshop eCAT was extended to include harmonization of product classification schemes
and their application to electronic catalogues.
This Workshop has already produced six CWAs dealing with different aspects of eBusiness
Cataloguing and Classification.
Current activities
In 2009 and 2010, two projects are carried out within Workshop eCAT. The first project ePPS
(electronic product property server) deals with
guidelines for the design, implementation and operation of a product property server.
A pilot test case will be run in an industry sector
(heating ventilation, air conditioning sanitary-ware).
The second project CC3P (classification and catalogue systems for public and private
procurement) analysis the classification systems used in
Europe for public procurement (CPV – Common Procurement Vocabulary) and some used in the
private sector (UNSPSC, GPC and eCl@ss).
The CC3P project will propose harmonization, mapping methodologies, recommendation on their
use in electronic catalogues and areas of
improvement in the CPV. The project main objectives are to analyse CPV, eCl@ss, GPC and
UNSPSC and to propose a plan to improve
interoperability between the CPV and the three market oriented classifications (CPV, eCl@ss
and GPC).
Workshop status
Two seminars for businesses and users will be organized in 2010 - the first seminar will be held
in Cologne on 25 January 2010.
